T-90M Tanks: Enhanced Survivability and Firepower for Russia’s Forces

The T-90M tanks, now with enhanced armor, active protection systems, and better firepower, offer Russia’s military a significant edge on the battlefield.

According to analysts from Military Watch Magazine, the «Nevsky» brigade of the Volunteer Corps from the Southern Military Group recently received a new batch of T-90M main battle tanks.

Since the onset of the full-scale war with Ukraine and its Western allies in February 2022, the capabilities of these tanks have been significantly enhanced, with a particular focus on improving their survivability against drone and missile attacks, the analysts reported.

The upgraded T-90M features enhanced armor, and the internal isolation of its ammunition has greatly reduced the risk of detonation. Additionally, the tank’s durability has been increased with the installation of anti-drone «mangal» devices and the «Arena-M» active protection system.

The publication considers the implementation of «Arena-M» to be the most significant upgrade the T-90M has received since it was first introduced into service. According to the analysts, this Russian tank now far surpasses its predecessors in terms of firepower.
