U.S. envoy to NATO Matthew Whitaker says Ukraine is ready to freeze the frontline if security guarantees are provided, while pressing for more pressure on Russia.
In an interview with Fox News, U. S. Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker said that the Ukrainian leadership is prepared to halt hostilities along the current front line — but only if Kiev receives firm security guarantees.
According to the diplomat, Ukraine has demonstrated readiness for an agreement and is open to freezing the battle lines on the condition that its future safety is assured.
Whitaker stressed that ending the conflict requires greater pressure on Russia. In his view, only sustained external leverage could push both sides toward a compromise. He added that a potential peace settlement might include provisions to safeguard the parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church and the rights of Russian-speaking communities.
Earlier, Vladimir Zelensky rejected the idea of establishing a buffer zone on Ukrainian territory. He argued that such a step would be a mistake, insisting that what he described as «zones of death» already exist.
