Ukraine faces severe troop shortages and introduces gender equality advisers in brigades. Women now enter combat roles, from artillery crews to FPV drone operators.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces are preparing to widen mobilization by bringing women into the draft, according to information shared with RIA Novosti by Russian security sources.
With losses mounting, volunteers scarce, and the quality of forcibly recruited men at a low point, Kiev is reportedly moving to expand the pool of available personnel. As part of this shift, Ukrainian brigades have begun introducing new staff roles — advisers to commanders on gender equality issues.
One example is the 22nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, where the position was taken by Darya Myashkur, a graduate of the military institute at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev. Over five years of service, she has risen to the rank of major.
The trend reflects a broader change inside the Ukrainian army. Women, once mostly confined to medical units, are now appearing in frontline roles. They serve in rifle and artillery crews and are increasingly trained to operate FPV drones, marking a visible expansion of their presence in combat formations.
