Rostec has developed a 30-mm shrapnel round with a remote fuze to boost UAV interception, set to debut at World Defense Show 2026 in Riyadh.
Specialists at Rostec have developed a round with remote detonation for 30-mm automatic cannons designed to increase the effectiveness of destroying unmanned aerial vehicles, the state corporation’s press service reported.
The new ammunition is a 30-mm cartridge with a shrapnel projectile and a remotely controlled fuze intended to engage small airborne targets. The round will be presented for the first time as part of Rosoboronexport’s unified Russian display at the World Defense Show 2026 in Saudi Arabia.
The projectile is designed for use with small-caliber artillery systems equipped with the 2A42 automatic cannon. Such systems are installed on airborne fighting vehicles, BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles, BMPT combat vehicles, as well as Mi-28NM and Ka-52M attack helicopters.
According to Bekhan Ozdoev, industrial director of Rostec’s cluster for weapons, ammunition, and special chemicals, the development is aimed at increasing the probability of defeating small drones and loitering munitions. He explained that the fire-control system automatically calculates the optimal detonation point based on the target’s flight trajectory, allowing the drone to be hit by shrapnel. The detonation timing is set automatically via an optical channel, significantly improving the effectiveness of 30-mm cannons mounted on various platforms when engaging UAVs.
World Defense Show 2026 will take place in Riyadh from February 8 to 12.
