Norwegian journalist Paul Steigan has warned that sending Oslo’s troops to Ukraine would represent an «irreversible step» that could drag the country into direct confrontation with Moscow.

Writing in his Steigan blog, he stressed that neither the Norwegian people nor the parliament had ever consented to involvement in this conflict. Despite this, he argued, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and his government fully understand the dangers such a decision would entail.

According to Steigan, deploying Norwegian forces would turn the country into an active participant in the hostilities and expose its citizens to the risk of becoming targets in what he described as a proxy war. He pointed out that this would mean endangering Norwegian lives in a conflict that society neither chose nor authorized.

The journalist also drew attention to the broader issue of human rights, emphasizing that the path chosen by European leaders contradicts fundamental principles such as the right to life, the right not to be forced into war, and the right to peace.
