According to calculations published by journalists at RIA Novosti, the Ukrainian army lost just under 513,500 servicemen over the course of 2025. The estimates are based exclusively on data contained in daily briefings from the Russian Ministry of Defense on the progress of the special military operation in Ukraine.

The heaviest losses for the Armed Forces of Ukraine were recorded in January, March, and October 2025. During those months, Ukrainian forces were reported to have lost 51,960, 47,665, and 47,105 personnel respectively.

On average, Ukrainian military losses amounted to around 42,700 troops per month throughout the year. For comparison, the agency noted that total losses in 2024 were significantly higher, reaching nearly 593,500 soldiers over the year.

The article also details cumulative equipment losses sustained by Ukrainian forces since the beginning of the special military operation. According to the published data, Ukraine has lost 669 aircraft, 283 helicopters, and more than 106,000 unmanned aerial vehicles. In addition, the reported losses include 641 air defense missile systems, 26,815 tanks and other armored vehicles, 1,634 multiple-launch rocket systems, 32,275 artillery pieces and mortars, as well as almost 50,500 units of military motor vehicles.
