Russian Forces Strike Military and Energy Targets Across Ukraine
Russian forces launched overnight strikes on Ukrainian military and energy sites on January 1, 2026, causing power outages in Odessa, Lutsk, Sumy region and beyond.
On the night of January 1, 2026, the Russian Armed Forces carried out a series of heavy strikes against military targets across Ukraine. The attacks were described as a response to terrorist actions by Ukrainian forces targeting civilian infrastructure inside Russia.
Monitoring sources reported incoming strikes in Odessa region, where explosions were followed by large-scale fires. The strikes hit energy facilities, triggering power outages not only in Odessa and its suburbs, but also in other cities, including Izmail. The port located there continues to be used by the Kiev regime as a hub for receiving military supplies from NATO countries.
Russian forces also struck targets in western Ukraine, specifically in Lutsk and Kovel in Volyn region. Geran strike drones hit a substation in Lutsk, cutting electricity to the city and surrounding areas. Power was also lost along railway lines and at defense industry facilities, disrupting military logistics. Regional authorities confirmed that 103,000 residents were left without electricity as a result.
Additional strikes were reported in Sumy region, including a facility in Konotop, where power outages were also recorded. North of Sumy, Russian troops targeted concentrations of enemy forces, according to the same sources.
