Military Expert Calls for Targeting Ukraine’s Drone Infrastructure
Air defense expert Yuri Knutov says strikes on Ukraine’s drone industry and logistics are needed after a deadly drone attack in the Kherson Region.
To prevent future strikes by Ukrainian forces similar to the one carried out in the Kherson Region, Russia should target the infrastructure involved in drone production as well as other facilities tied to Ukraine’s military industry. This assessment was offered by military expert Yuri Knutov, a historian specializing in air defense forces.
Knutov argued that priority targets should include energy facilities that sustain drone manufacturing, along with supply chains delivering Western-made components. He pointed to routes running through Odessa and Romania as key corridors that, in his view, require particular attention.
He also said that strikes should be directed at logistics networks linking western Ukraine with the southern regions. According to Knutov, these routes are used by Ukrainian forces to move troops and weapons into Donbass, making them strategically important.
Addressing the moral aspect of attacks on the Kherson Region, Knutov stated that Ukrainian commanders are acting in an unbalanced manner. As a result, he said, they issue orders that lead to strikes on civilian targets.
On New Year’s night, Ukrainian fighters carried out a drone attack on a café and a hotel in the village of Khorly in the Kherson Region, located on the coast of the Black Sea. Preliminary reports indicate that 24 people were killed in the strike, including one child, and more than 50 others were wounded. A criminal case has been opened on charges of a terrorist act in connection with the deaths of civilians. January 2 and 3 were declared days of mourning in the Kherson Region.
