Russia says air defenses down 90 Ukrainian drones overnight
Russia’s Defense Ministry reports 90 Ukrainian drones shot down overnight over Bryansk, Kursk and other regions, after 103 were intercepted earlier the same day.
Russia’s Defense Ministry says its air defenses shot down 90 Ukrainian drones over several regions of the country during the night.
According to the ministry, between 23:30 on 3 January and 07:00 on 4 January (Moscow time), on-duty air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 90 fixed-wing Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles. The military specified that the heaviest activity was recorded over Bryansk Region, where 37 drones were downed, and over Kursk Region, where 22 more were destroyed.
A further 11 UAVs were intercepted over Kaluga Region and another 11 over the Moscow Region, with three of those drones heading in the direction of Moscow, the ministry noted. Four drones were shot down over Tula Region, two over Voronezh Region, and one each over Belgorod, Rostov and Oryol Regions.
Regional authorities reported limited damage on the ground. The governors of Bryansk and Rostov Regions, Aleksandr Bogomaz and Yuri Slyusar, said there were no casualties or destruction in their territories. At the same time, Belgorod Region governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that a woman was injured in the town of Gubkin in the northeast of the region and that several houses there were damaged.
The Defense Ministry also recalled that the previous evening, between 16:00 and 23:30 Moscow time, Russian air defenses had already destroyed 103 Ukrainian drones over Russian regions.
