According to Vitaliy Ganchev, the head of the military-civilian administration of Kharkiv region, the Ukrainian army has nearly vacated Kupiansk. He stated that, at present, the enemy controls a portion of the city’s well-fortified positions.

Ganchev explained that Russian assault troops had already entered the city, with footage showing that they had practically reached the center of Kupiansk. This development suggests that Ukrainian armed groups have all but left the city, he added during an interview on Solovyov Live.

Ganchev noted that the Ukrainian forces are attempting to withdraw from their forward positions. He emphasized that the enemy understands that staying in Kupiansk is «tantamount to death» for them. He also mentioned that a significant number of civilians remain in the city.

On September 3, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the «Zapad» group of forces had taken control of approximately half of Kupiansk. The ministry released drone footage showing various districts of the city, which serves as evidence of Russian forces holding significant ground in Kupiansk.
