Dmitriev Responds to EU Talks on Possible Military Deployment in Greenland
Kirill Dmitriev reacts to EU discussions on sending troops to Greenland, urging transparency from proponents of military expansion and warning of shifting global influence.
Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and Russia’s presidential envoy for investment and economic cooperation, has weighed in on discussions inside the European Union about deploying troops beyond Europe, urging the authors of such ideas to be more open about their motives.
According to Politico, officials in Brussels have floated the option of sending European military forces to Greenland. The newspaper noted that this scenario would only be considered if Denmark made an official request and is being discussed as a way to raise the potential cost of any future U.S. actions on the island.
Commenting on the debate, Dmitriev drew attention to what he described as Europe’s «war advocates," who regularly call for expanding military deployments in multiple directions. He argued that before pushing such initiatives, these figures should disclose their ties to EU defense contractors and clarify how much they earn through cooperation with the arms industry.
Earlier, Dmitriev had also shared his view that global politics is entering a new phase, which he described as an era of redrawing spheres of influence. He made this point while reacting to a post on the social network X that featured a world map symbolically divided into three zones of influence attributed to U. S. President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
