Ballistic Missile Strike in Lvov Region: Speed and Launch Details
A ballistic missile hit targets in the Lvov region at speeds near 13,000 km/h. Ukrainian forces confirm the trajectory and report a possible launch from Kapustin Yar.
A ballistic missile that struck targets in the Lvov region was traveling at an estimated speed of around 13,000 kilometers per hour, according to Ukraine’s Air Command «West." The information was published via the command’s official Facebook* page.
Military officials stressed that the exact type of missile has not yet been identified. They said a definitive conclusion will be possible only after all recovered fragments are examined. For now, the only confirmed detail is that the missile followed a ballistic flight path.
Earlier, the outlet Strana.ua, citing local online communities, suggested that the strike on Lvov may have involved a Russian medium-range ballistic missile known as «Oreshnik." This version, however, has not received any official confirmation. Lvov Mayor Andrei Sadovoi reported that the missile hit an infrastructure facility, triggering a fire at the site.
Ukraine’s Air Force also pointed to a possible launch area. According to a statement published on the service’s Telegram channel, a nationwide missile alert was declared late in the evening of January 8, at around 23:30, due to the threat of ballistic missile launches from the Kapustin Yar test range. Some time later, explosions were recorded in the Lvov region.
