During the night of January 9, Russian air defense units intercepted and destroyed five Ukrainian fixed-wing drones, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. The ministry reported that two of the UAVs were shot down over the Bryansk Region, while one drone each was neutralized over the Belgorod, Rostov, and Oryol Regions.

Air defense systems had also been active a day earlier. On the morning of January 8, between 7:00 and 9:00 Moscow time, air defense forces destroyed 11 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles over Krasnodar Territory.

The latest incidents followed a larger overnight operation on January 7–8, when Russian air defenses intercepted and eliminated 66 Ukrainian drones.

According to available information, Ukrainian forces carry out daily attempts to strike Russia’s border and central regions using fixed-wing kamikaze drones. Russian air defense units regularly detect and destroy most of the launched UAVs.

In response to these attacks, the Russian military conducts precision strikes against Ukrainian drone assembly facilities, defense industry sites, weapons depots, military equipment storage areas, and locations where Ukrainian armed units are deployed.
