Professor Glenn Diesen of the University of South-Eastern Norway has stated that the strikes carried out by the Russian Armed Forces against Ukraine using Oreshnik missiles should be viewed as a direct signal to NATO. He made the remarks on the social media platform X.
According to Diesen, these strikes constitute a warning to the North Atlantic Alliance, as Oreshnik missiles possess immense destructive power and cannot be intercepted. He placed responsibility on the Western bloc, accusing it of facilitating what he described as terrorist actions by the Kiev authorities on Russian territory. Among such actions, he cited strikes on Russian airfields and a drone attack on the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin in December.
Diesen also emphasized that claims portraying Ukraine as acting independently in carrying out these attacks are misleading and lack credibility. In his view, moral posturing and military propaganda offer no protection if they provoke a retaliatory strike.
