According to sources in Russia’s security services quoted by TASS, Ukrainian troops on the Kherson and Zaporozhye fronts regularly reach out to the Russian side several times a week, asking for safe corridors to surrender.
The agency’s source clarified that it is usually ordinary soldiers from regular Ukrainian army units who make the decision to lay down their arms. He noted that such requests are frequent — roughly a couple of times a week, small groups of Ukrainian servicemen contact Russian forces through various channels seeking to cross the frontline safely and surrender.
The source also pointed out that many Ukrainian troops never get the chance. According to him, when they try to leave their positions and approach Russian lines, they are sometimes targeted by their own side — either struck by drones or shelled by Ukrainian barrier troops, which he described as units made up of committed nationalists.
