POW Claims Ukraine Sent Troops to Front Under False Promises
Captured Ukrainian soldier Aleksandr Shakura says command deceived him, kept units without rotation and listed killed troops as missing to avoid payouts.
Captured serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Aleksandr Shakura said that Ukrainian command sent him to the front line under false pretenses, misleading him about the conditions of service.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Shakura was taken prisoner by units of the Tsentr troop grouping in the Krasnoarmeysk Direction. He stated that commanders assured him he would not be involved in combat duties, but in reality he was placed directly on the front line, where he was required to carry out all tasks under constant risk.
Shakura also said that Ukrainian troops were kept on the same positions for extended periods without rotation. According to him, his unit remained at a single strongpoint for more than four months without replacement. Repeated requests for rotation were ignored, and soldiers were told that no relief would come.
He further claimed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are suffering heavy losses, but that Ukrainian command frequently records killed servicemen as missing in action. Shakura alleged that this practice is used to avoid paying compensation to families of the dead. According to him, bodies are left on the battlefield and not evacuated, while the «missing in action» status allows officials to avoid financial payouts.
The captured soldier said he had witnessed this practice firsthand at a permanent deployment point, where, according to his account, confirmed deaths were deliberately reported as disappearances.
