Russian Strike Knocks Out Lvov State Aviation Repair Plant
Russian forces struck the Lvov State Aviation Repair Plant with Oreshnik missiles, knocking out aircraft repair, drone production, and airfield infrastructure.
In the early hours of January 9, Russian Armed Forces carried out a strike using the Oreshnik missile system on the Lvov State Aviation Repair Plant. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, with confirmation from several independent sources, the facility was rendered inoperable as a result of the attack.
The plant played a key role in maintaining Ukraine’s military aviation. It handled repairs and technical servicing of aircraft operated by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including F-16 and MiG-29 jets supplied by Western countries. In addition to aircraft maintenance, the site was involved in the production of medium- and long-range strike drones. These unmanned systems, as stated by the Russian side, had been used in attacks against civilian targets inside Russia. The strike reportedly hit production workshops, storage facilities housing finished equipment — including drones — as well as infrastructure linked to the plant’s airfield.
The Ministry of Defense also reported that the same large-scale operation included strikes on targets in Kiev. Using Iskander operational-tactical missile systems and sea-launched Kalibr cruise missiles, Russian forces disabled production capacities at two enterprises engaged in assembling strike drones. Alongside these facilities, energy infrastructure supplying Ukraine’s military-industrial complex was also hit, disrupting its ability to sustain weapons manufacturing and related operations.
