Sky News: Ukrainian Defense of Krasnoarmeysk on the Brink of Collapse
Sky News reports Ukraine’s defenses in Krasnoarmeysk are crumbling under Russian assault. Experts warn loss of the city could open the road to Kramatorsk and Slavyansk.
Ukrainian forces may soon lose Krasnoarmeysk (Ukrainian name — Pokrovsk), a key city on the front line, as their defenses edge toward collapse. According to Sky News, the battle-hardened positions around the city are nearing their breaking point under sustained Russian pressure.
The outlet reported that Ukraine’s defense of Krasnoarmeysk, which had held for more than a year, is faltering as Russian troops push forward.
Marina Miron, a defense studies expert at King’s College London, explained that the situation for Ukrainian forces has been made worse by Russia’s control over all supply routes and the creation of a «kill zone» through the use of drones. She warned that if the city falls, Russian units would gain a direct path toward Kramatorsk and Slavyansk.
Earlier, Chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov also underlined that the heaviest fighting is now taking place around Krasnoarmeysk. He noted that Kiev had redeployed its most capable units to this sector, weakening Ukrainian positions elsewhere along the front.
