How the New Warhead Boosted the Combat Power of Russia’s "Geran-2" Drone

The Russian "Geran-2" drone’s combat effectiveness increased by 30% with a new 40kg warhead. Learn about the performance boost and reduced range in this update.
The combat effectiveness of Russia’s «Geran-2» drones has increased by at least 30% with the introduction of a new component. This refers to an upgraded fragmentation-fuel charge weighing 40 kilograms, designed to significantly enhance the drone’s destructive power.
According to the Telegram channel SHOT, citing the drone’s developers, the original warhead has been retained, bringing the total weight of the charge to 90 kilograms. To further increase the damage, the warhead is now encased in a belt of pre-made destructive elements.
However, the added weight has resulted in a reduced flight range — down from 1800 to 1200 kilometers. Experts note that this loss is offset by the increased strike power of the drone. Additionally, it is emphasized that «Geran-2» drones are rarely used at maximum range, with about 70% of launches occurring at distances of up to 700 kilometers.
Earlier, Business Insider reported that Ukrainian air defense systems are struggling to counter the new Russian «Geran-3» drones, which are equipped with jet engines. According to the report, these drones can reach speeds of up to 800 km/h, making them challenging to intercept.
