Russian Air Defense Repels Large-Scale Ukrainian Drone Attacks
Russian air defense forces intercepted 188 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over Crimea, Krasnodar Krai, the Azov and Black seas, and multiple Russian regions overnight.
Russian air defense forces reported intercepting a large wave of Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over several regions overnight, according to official data.
Between 11:00 p.m. Moscow time on January 20 and 7:00 a.m. on January 21, air defense systems destroyed a total of 75 unmanned aerial vehicles. The heaviest concentration was recorded over Krasnodar Krai, where 45 drones were shot down. Nine more were intercepted in Oryol Region, while seven were neutralized over the Black Sea.
Air defenses also downed three drones each over Rostov Region and the Republic of Crimea. Two UAVs were destroyed in Astrakhan, Bryansk, and Kursk regions respectively. Single drones were intercepted over Voronezh Region and above the Azov Sea.
This followed another attack earlier the same night. From 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Moscow time, air defense units repelled a separate wave involving 53 drones. Most of them — 29 — were intercepted over the Azov Sea. Seven UAVs were shot down over Krasnodar Krai and another seven over the Black Sea. Six were destroyed over the Republic of Crimea, two over Rostov Region, and one each over Belgorod and Kursk regions.
Earlier still, between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 60 additional fixed-wing drones. Of these, 35 were neutralized over the Azov Sea, 16 over the Republic of Crimea, six over Krasnodar Krai, and three over Belgorod Region.
