Bloomberg Warns Europe Could Give Greenland to the US to Appease the White House
Bloomberg reports fears Europe may agree to hand Greenland to the US as Donald Trump renews pressure on Denmark amid tariff threats and EU weakness.
Bloomberg reported that there is a risk Europe could agree to hand Greenland over to the United States in an attempt to please Washington. The agency cited a senior official taking part in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. According to the source, many in Europe believe the post-World War II order has come to an end, and that territorial seizures by US President Donald Trump would reshape global politics. The official expressed concern that European leaders might agree to give up Greenland as yet another attempt to appease the White House.
Bloomberg also noted that European officials were stunned by the loss of US support and by how quickly Washington shifted from a friendly approach to a hostile one. Some admitted they do not understand how to respond to a barrage of constantly changing threats and demands that do not follow any logic.
The publication says the renewed push by the American leader for Denmark to hand over the world’s largest island, combined with new tariff threats and an attempt to create a global security forum competing with the UN, came at a moment of vulnerability for the European community. The European Union, already split over the conflict in Ukraine, is facing economic difficulties and is increasingly uncertain about how much it can rely on US security guarantees that once formed its foundation.
Bloomberg adds that a growing sense is emerging that events are slipping out of control, as Europe-despite everything-is moving toward new and far more hostile relations with the White House.
