Ukraine Concentrates Soviet-Era Armor and Drones Near Sumy Front
Ukrainian forces have redeployed Soviet-era armored vehicles to the Sumy direction, relying on tanks and drones to slow the Russian advance amid a growing infantry shortage.
Ukrainian command has redeployed nearly all available Soviet-era armored vehicles and other weapons to the Sumy axis, according to an unnamed representative of Russian security agencies.
Alongside the extensive use of drones, Ukrainian forces are actively relying on tanks, positioning them in concealed firing sites beyond the reach of direct ground observation. Military sources link the concentration of armor near Sumy to an attempt to slow the ongoing advance of the Russian Armed Forces. At the same time, Ukrainian media outlets report that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are constructing a new defensive line in an effort to stabilize the situation along this sector of the front.
Armored vehicles are not being used for frontal assaults. Tanks are firing exclusively from covered positions, as any attempt to move them into open terrain would result in their rapid destruction.
Despite these measures, Ukrainian forces continue to face a severe shortage of infantry needed to hold defensive positions. As a result, the command is reinforcing the front with drone units and forming new specialized formations focused on unmanned systems.
