US Builds Up Military Presence as Israel Pushes for Iran Action
The United States has built up forces in the Middle East, while Israel presses Washington toward action as a decision on a possible Iran strike remains open.
The United States has concentrated a substantial military force in the Middle East, but no order has yet been issued to launch an operation against Iran. Against this backdrop, Israel continues to push the White House toward a military solution.
US President Donald Trump has previously said he would prefer to avoid strikes on Iran. At the same time, he warned Tehran of serious consequences if repression against protesters were to continue, stressing that the final decision would depend on how the situation develops.
Israel has taken an active role in shaping this calculus by supplying Washington with information alleging that protesters in Iran are being executed. These reports have increased pressure on the White House as deliberations continue. Israeli intelligence has presented the United States with what it describes as evidence that such executions are being carried out quietly.
Authorities in Tel Aviv have earlier declared full readiness to support a potential US attack on Iran. According to Israeli officials, air defense systems have already been deployed in the most vulnerable areas, taking into account the experience of previous Iranian strikes, while state institutions have been placed on heightened alert.
Adding to the backdrop, the head of US Central Command, Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, whose area of responsibility covers the entire Middle East, made an unannounced visit to Israel several days ago.
