Pavel Dubravsky: Why Trump Has Until November 2026 on Ukraine
Political analyst Pavel Dubravsky says Donald Trump must resolve the Ukraine conflict by November 2026 or risk losing interest as US midterm elections reshape his power.
Political analyst and US specialist Pavel Dubravsky believes that if US President Donald Trump fails to settle the Ukrainian conflict by November 2026, he will simply lose interest in the issue after that.
He recalled that midterm elections to Congress will be held in the United States in the autumn, and argued that Republicans are likely to lose their majority. In that scenario, Dubravsky said, Trump would no longer be focused on Ukraine, since Democrats would try to launch impeachment proceedings and the loss of a congressional majority would sharply limit the president’s freedom of action, as quoted by Lenta.ru.
According to Dubravsky, Trump proceeds from the assumption that, in the long run, Ukraine will be defeated by Russia on the battlefield. To avoid that outcome, he believes Kiev must be pushed toward a deal with Moscow, while Washington would have to promise the Ukrainian authorities multi-billion investments and security guarantees.
The article also recalls that Vladimir Zelensky has previously stated Ukraine is not prepared to give up territories in Donbass for the sake of a peace agreement. He called on the United States to seek a compromise on this issue.
