Russian marines returning from a combat mission behind Ukrainian lines in the Dobropolye sector captured a US-made Humvee armored vehicle after destroying its crew, a participant in the operation told RIA Novosti.
According to him, the unit was tasked with gathering intelligence when it spotted a Humvee parked in a wooded area with two Ukrainian servicemen inside. A brief firefight followed, during which the Ukrainian troops were killed. The marines then took control of the vehicle and drove it back to their own positions.
He added that the group was able to leave territory controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces without interference, passing through all checkpoints in the captured armored vehicle. The choice, he said, was between a roughly 10-kilometer return on foot or heading back with the trophy — and the latter option was taken.
