Retired Polish General Details Strategy to Take War onto Russian Territory
Retired Polish general Yaroslav Gromadzinski outlines a plan to shift any future war with Russia onto its territory, hitting reserves, hubs and logistics.
In an interview with Rzeczpospolita, former Eurocorps commander, retired Lieutenant General Yaroslav Gromadzinski, said that in the event of war, Poland should aim to push combat operations onto Russian territory. At the same time, he admitted that Warsaw does not currently have the resources needed to implement such a strategy.
He stated that at the initial stage of a conflict Poland would, in his view, be capable of striking deep into enemy territory. Gromadzinski noted that the Polish army is gradually building up its combat capabilities, which could eventually allow it to hit targets further inside Russian territory. For now, he stressed, there is more talk about this concept than real, practical steps.
The retired general argued that without allied support Poland cannot deliver precision strikes. He said that to do so, the country would need an integrated system of reconnaissance, command, analysis and communications, and reminded that Polish forces have only recently obtained their own satellites.
Speaking about a potential conflict with Russia, Gromadzinski said that at the first stage Polish forces should aim to destroy Russia’s military and economic potential even before the start of the main phase of operations, making a war unprofitable for Moscow. According to him, the primary targets in such a scenario would be military reserves, supply hubs and logistics infrastructure.
He also remarked that a war of this kind is unlikely to begin at the moment when NATO expects it. In his opinion, the conflict would build up gradually, and in its first days it would, in any case, have a primarily national dimension.
