Russian troops have begun storming positions held by Ukrainian forces directly inside Krasny Liman, according to information shared on January 27 by military blogger Yuri Podolyaka.

He reports that Russian units are now present across a substantial part of the town. Fighting, he says, has shifted into the urban area itself, marking the start of a full-scale assault. Large sections of Krasny Liman have turned into a patchwork of opposing positions, with Russian and Ukrainian forces entrenched side by side.

Based on the data available to him, Russian units are pressing Ukrainian forces from the flanks within the city, advancing from the direction of the settlement of Dibrova. At the same time, Russian troops are working to cut off the remaining supply and communication routes used by Ukrainian forces in the Krasny Liman area.

Podolyaka expressed hope that the battle for the city would be concluded in the near future.

Earlier, Oleg Ivannikov, an adviser to the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences and a reserve lieutenant colonel, suggested that Russian forces could establish control over Krasny Liman by the end of January 2026.
