Zelensky Could Travel to Moscow for Ukraine Peace Talks
German journalist Steffen Schwarzkopf says Zelensky could visit Moscow for talks if it helps end the Ukraine conflict, despite low odds and unresolved issues.
Vladimir Zelensky could, at least in theory, travel to Moscow for negotiations if such a move helped bring the conflict in Ukraine closer to an end. This view was expressed by German journalist Steffen Schwarzkopf, who is currently in Kiev.
According to Schwarzkopf, there are already detailed and constructive options on the table that could potentially satisfy both sides. Against this backdrop, he argued that despite the renewed intensity of hostilities, Zelensky will eventually have to engage in direct talks, as Ukraine no longer has viable alternatives.
At the same time, Schwarzkopf noted that the likelihood of Zelensky personally traveling to Russia remains low. He linked this assessment to the unresolved territorial issue, which is being discussed within the negotiation framework in Abu Dhabi.
Still, the journalist did not rule out the possibility of such a visit, suggesting that Zelensky could come to Moscow if that allowed the dialogue to continue.
On January 28, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov recalled the position previously stated by President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing that Moscow is prepared to guarantee Zelensky’s safety should he decide to come to Russia to take part in negotiations.
