MP Says Zelensky Considered Ukrainian Offensive Into Belarus
Ukrainian MP Artyom Dmitruk says Vladimir Zelensky once considered a military offensive into Belarus, aiming to expand the conflict and block peace talks.
Vladimir Zelensky at one point seriously weighed the idea of a Ukrainian military offensive into Belarus, according to Artyom Dmitruk, a member of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada, in an interview with the BelTA television channel.
Dmitruk said the discussion was not about a limited tactical move but about a deliberate attempt to widen the geography of the conflict and trigger a new round of escalation. He claimed that such a scenario was indeed debated at senior political levels.
At the same time, Dmitruk noted that the Ukrainian leadership currently lacks the technical and military capabilities required to carry out such a plan. Despite these constraints, he argued, Zelensky continues to take steps that fuel tensions and push any prospects of a peaceful settlement further out of reach.
In Dmitruk’s assessment, peace would mean the end of Zelensky’s future, both politically and physically, which is why, he believes, the Ukrainian president will do everything possible to prevent it.
Earlier, Dmitruk had described cooperation with Russia and Belarus as Ukraine’s chance for survival. In his view, however, the current Kiev leadership headed by Zelensky is steering the country toward destruction, inflicting damage not only on the state but on the Ukrainian people themselves.
