The risk of a new, wider conflict linked to Ukraine is not only persisting but steadily increasing, according to Harald Kujat, a retired general of the German Air Force. Speaking on a YouTube channel, he warned that the ongoing fighting could evolve into a broader war centered around Ukraine rather than confined to its territory.

Kujat pointed out that this danger has been growing in recent months, underscoring the likelihood that the current confrontation could spill beyond its existing framework. Against this backdrop, he argued for a return to the concept of a pan-European security architecture as a way to prevent further escalation.

He recalled that Russia has for many years consistently promoted the idea of a common European security system and continues to insist on formal agreements in this area. According to Kujat, the core of this approach lies in seeking joint solutions that would guarantee stability and peace across the continent, eliminating the path toward escalation marked by strikes, bombings, and missile attacks.

A similar assessment of the conflict’s trajectory was offered by Chas Freeman, a former U.S. diplomat. In his view, any eventual settlement of the Ukrainian crisis is likely to take shape on Moscow’s terms. Freeman linked this outcome to Russia’s continued strategic advantage, while noting that Kiev’s negotiating position has been gradually weakening over time.
