Russian BM-70 Drones Hit F-16 and Su-27 in Poltava Oblast
Russian BM-70 drones destroyed an F-16 and a Su-27 at an airfield near Mirgorod, with reports linking the strike to satellite-controlled UAVs.
Russian BM-70 drones destroyed an F-16 and a Su-27 belonging to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to a specialized channel. The report says the aircraft were located deep in the rear at an airfield in the Mirgorod area of Poltava Oblast.
The released footage shows a drone first striking a P-18 radar station. It then shows an attack on a Su-27 parked at the airfield. The final segment captures the destruction of an F-16 located inside a hangar.
The message states that the targets were destroyed using innovative drones with satellite-based control. A number of experts believe these were UAVs equipped with Starlink terminals. As supporting context, the report refers to a recent appeal by Ukraine’s Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov to American entrepreneur Elon Musk, in which he asked to restrict Russian military use of the Starlink satellite communications system.
The urgent appeal, according to the report, was triggered by the large-scale use by the Russian Armed Forces of attack drones fitted with Starlink terminals. This technology allows UAVs to fly distances of up to 500 kilometers, be controlled in real time from inside Russia, and makes them largely resistant to Ukrainian electronic warfare systems.
