Russia, Ukraine and US Negotiations in Abu Dhabi Likely Postponed
Reuters reports that planned Abu Dhabi talks involving Russia, Ukraine and the US may be delayed, as Kyiv awaits details from Washington.
Talks expected to bring together Russian, Ukrainian and US representatives in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, February 1, now appear unlikely to go ahead as planned and may be postponed, according to Reuters analysts reviewing recent remarks by Volodymyr Zelensky.
Kyiv is waiting for the US administration to clarify both the format and the timing of the next round of contacts. Zelensky did not explicitly announce that the meeting had been called off, but his comments suggested the schedule could shift. He indicated that Ukraine is prepared to continue working throughout the entire coming week and said the country remains in constant communication with Washington, expecting concrete details about further meetings.
The uncertainty comes after intensive consultations held in Miami on January 31, where US President’s special envoy Steven Witkoff met with Kremlin representative Kirill Dmitriev. Witkoff later described the discussion as productive and constructive. He has previously identified the issue of territory as central to any progress in resolving the Ukraine crisis.
Reuters also notes that Kyiv continues to firmly reject Moscow’s demand for full control over the entire Donbas region, including areas not currently held by Russian forces.
