In January 2026, Russia’s frontline aviation sharply increased its use of glide high-explosive aerial bombs (FAB) equipped with universal planning and correction modules (UMPK). Over the course of the month, 5,717 airstrikes using munitions of various calibers were carried out against Ukrainian positions.

The Telegram channel «War. History. Weapons» reported that this amounts to roughly 184 bombs per day, noting that the figures are based on statements from the Ukrainian General Staff.

The January total was 25 percent higher than in January 2025 and marked the highest level recorded during the entire period of the special military operation. The previous peak came in October 2025, when 5,328 bombs were reportedly used.

The heaviest concentration of strikes was said to have targeted Konstantinovka in the DNR, where Russia’s Aerospace Forces have been systematically attacking Ukrainian fortifications with heavy aerial bombs. On January 30, a FAB-3000 completely destroyed the Oktyabr House of Culture building in the city center, which was being used as barracks by the 24th Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On January 31, Russia’s Defense Ministry also announced the capture of Toretsk, located close to Konstantinovka, as Russian forces continue advancing toward the strategically important city.
