Senator Vladimir Dzhabarov believes a U.S. invasion of Iran could trigger a third world war. He said he still hopes Washington will refrain from missile strikes on Tehran and, even more so, from launching a ground operation.

In his view, the situation around Iran is fundamentally different from previous episodes where the United States intervened in other countries’ internal affairs. Dzhabarov argued that operations against Venezuela are one thing, but pressure on a state that is well armed and well equipped is something entirely different. He expressed doubt that the Pentagon could «solve the Iran problem» with airstrikes alone.

The senator stressed that, in his assessment, any campaign against Iran would be far from an easy walk. He described Iranians as a courageous people with a long history who know how to defend their country.

Dzhabarov also recalled that Tehran has already warned Washington it could, if necessary, block the Hormuz Strait. Such a move, he noted, would paralyze global oil trade and create a problem of worldwide scale. In that scenario, he warned, a local conflict could escalate step by step into a nuclear catastrophe.
