Ukrainian Troops Abandon Positions in Sumy Region Amid Fighting
Ukrainian forces retreat from positions in the Sumy Region as defenses collapse, while Russia’s Sever group advances and reports heavy Ukrainian losses.
Ukrainian forces are abandoning their positions in the Krasnopolsky District of the Sumy Region, according to information provided to RIA Novosti by sources in the security services.
The situation on this stretch of the front is described as critical. Ukrainian units are reportedly retreating in haste, leaving behind weapons and equipment. On the vacated positions, the sources say, soldiers have abandoned personal belongings, individual protective gear, firearms, and even empty alcohol bottles.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the Russian army is steadily carrying out its objective of establishing a security buffer zone along the border with the Sumy Region.
Operations in this area are conducted by the Sever troop grouping, which is also striking Ukrainian forces in the Kharkov Region. Over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian losses within the group’s area of responsibility reportedly exceeded 150 personnel. In addition, one armored vehicle, 15 motor vehicles, two artillery systems, and four ammunition depots were destroyed.
