US officials have expressed concern after a Russian Il-76 transport aircraft, typically used to carry military equipment, landed at a Cuban military airfield, Fox News reported.

According to publicly available flight-tracking data, the Il-76 landed at San Antonio de los Banos, a Cuban military facility located about 30 miles south of Havana. The same aircraft reportedly conducted flights to Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba in late October 2025, during a period of heightened tensions between Washington and Caracas.

The report says US officials and American analysts are alarmed by increased Russian aviation activity in the region. At the same time, the nature of the cargo carried by the aircraft on its most recent flight remains unknown.

Earlier, on January 26, the Cuban outlet 14ymedio, citing sources, reported that an Il-96 aircraft operating between Venezuela and Cuba has been transporting Cuban military personnel. According to the report, the plane brings some servicemen to Havana while delivering new volunteers to replace them.
