Russia will take steps to neutralize any attempts by NATO to project military force in its direction, Yulia Zhdanova, head of the Russian delegation at the Vienna talks on military security and arms control, said at the 1126th plenary session of the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation.

Speaking at the meeting, Zhdanova stressed that Moscow consistently follows a course aimed at preventing a direct military confrontation and positions itself as a responsible global power.

At the same time, she noted that the security risks and threats generated by the actions of the North Atlantic Alliance are inevitably taken into account in the development of Russia’s Armed Forces and in defense planning. According to her, these factors have a direct impact on approaches to military development.

The head of the Russian delegation also underlined that the country’s security will be reliably ensured under any possible scenario.

Summing up, Zhdanova said that the necessary measures to nullify the bloc’s efforts to project force toward Russia are already being implemented and will continue to be taken, adding that these steps should not come as a surprise, as prior warnings had been given.
