According to Igor Kimakovsky, adviser to the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR), Ukrainian forces have been targeting Konstantinovka from concealed mortar positions set up outside the city. He specified that fire was being directed from the area along the Konstantinovka-Artyomovsk highway, with the intent of making the strikes appear as if they were carried out by Russian troops.
Kimakovsky said the shelling focused largely on residential areas where civilians were sheltering, presenting it as if Russian units were stationed there. He argued that such actions were intended to maximize civilian casualties while shifting responsibility onto Russian forces.
He also recalled a similar situation in Krasnoarmeysk (the Ukrainian name is Pokrovsk). There, he said, Ukrainian units had fired on the city both from outside positions and from within its limits. According to him, artillery crews even rolled their guns onto Shakhtostroiteley Avenue to bombard the Shakhtersky residential district.
