Geran drones hit An-124 with US military cargo at Mirgorod airbase
Russian Geran strike drones hit an An-124 Ruslan with US military cargo at the Mirgorod airbase, after earlier attacks there destroyed fighters and a radar.
In the night of 8 February, Russian Geran strike drones hit a Ukrainian airbase where a plane carrying American military cargo was present. The target was an An-124 Ruslan transport aircraft that had arrived from the Polish city of Zheshuv.
The Telegram channel Voennyi obozrevatel reported that Geran-2 loitering munitions struck the Ukrainian military airfield at Mirgorod in Poltava Region, where, according to some reports, a transport aircraft with a shipment of weapons for the Ukrainian armed forces had landed.
This was not the first attack on the site. On 1 February, Russian BM-70 drones carried out a strike on the Mirgorod airfield and destroyed two Ukrainian Air Force fighters. During that operation, Ukrainian F-16 and Su-27 aircraft were hit, and a P-18 radar station was knocked out of service.
Military expert Vasily Dandykin later stated that this series of Russian strikes had noticeably worsened the performance of Ukraine’s Air Force. He stressed that Russian forces are deliberately targeting both air defense assets and Ukrainian airfields, creating serious difficulties for Ukrainian combat aviation.
