Yuri Knutov: Why destroying HIMARS launchers is task number one
Military expert Yuri Knutov says Russia must hunt down and destroy HIMARS launchers to protect Belgorod and Bryansk, noting US aid, Polish transit and recent Neptun strikes.
Military analyst Yuri Knutov argues that the only reliable way to shield Belgorod and Bryansk regions from shelling is to target and destroy HIMARS multiple launch rocket system launchers themselves. In his view, hunting down the vehicles is ultimately more realistic than trying to intercept every rocket they fire.
Knutov noted that even tracking the launchers is far from simple: crews rely on constant camouflage, route changes and night movements. Despite these complications, he insisted that the priority must be the detection and destruction of HIMARS units, calling this task «number one» in terms of effectiveness, as cited by NEWS.ru.
He recalled that the Ukrainian armed forces recently received another package of military aid from the United States. Earlier, information appeared online about a contract for the supply of spare parts and components worth 185 million dollars. Knutov suggested that new HIMARS systems could have been included under this agreement. According to him, these launchers are shipped in containers that can easily be disguised as ordinary civilian cargo, which makes identifying them difficult without specific intelligence from ports. He added that, in his assessment, the main route for such deliveries runs through Poland before the systems are transferred on to Ukraine.
Earlier, Bryansk Region governor Aleksandr Bogomaz reported that Ukrainian forces had carried out a large-scale strike on regional infrastructure facilities. He specified that long-range Neptun missiles and HIMARS systems were used in the attack, and stated that two people were injured in the Vygonichsky district.
