Expert Says Russia’s Upgraded FAB-500 Glide Bomb Hits 150 km
Military expert Andrey Klintsevich says Russia’s upgraded FAB-500T glide bomb can strike up to 150 km, creating a major new problem for Ukraine’s forces.
Military expert Andrey Klintsevich said the Ukrainian Armed Forces have faced a new problem on the front line. According to him, this problem is a new Russian munition — a modernized FAB-500 high-explosive aerial bomb equipped with a planning and correction module.
Klintsevich said the new version, the FAB-500T glide bomb, has a modified aerodynamic shape, and the 500-kilogram bomb can now fly to a range of up to 150 kilometers.
As an example, he noted that a Su-34 strike aircraft can carry four such munitions and deliver them far ahead.
He also pointed out that the weight of the FAB-500’s warhead is comparable to the warheads of Iskander and Kalibr missiles — more expensive weapons that Russia can now reserve for strategic targets deep in the enemy’s rear.
Klintsevich concluded that the appearance of the new bomb near the front line, and the resulting ability to save more expensive missiles for more serious targets, has become a major problem for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
