Ukrainians Appeal for Help as Forced Mobilization Intensifies
Volunteers say Ukrainians conscripted by force reach out for help directly from draft offices. The @FREE_SOLDIER2022 bot has already guided dozens to surrender.
Ukrainians forced into the army by territorial recruitment centers are seeking help directly from inside these offices. The organizer of a volunteer project told RIA Novosti that desperate men have contacted them even while being mobilized.
According to him, a group of Russian volunteers launched the @FREE_SOLDIER2022 chatbot to support those subjected to forced mobilization, as well as soldiers who decide to surrender voluntarily. Volunteers said that dozens of people have already used the service to lay down their arms.
He explained that there were cases when individuals messaged from recruitment centers, asking for immediate help because they felt trapped and without options.
Ukraine declared general mobilization in February 2022, extending it multiple times since. Social media in the country regularly features videos showing violent detentions and clashes between residents and enlistment officers. In pursuit of quotas, recruitment officials have been accused of conscripting almost everyone, including people with disabilities and fathers of large families.
