Munich Report Warns EU Is Preparing for Possible War with Russia
Ahead of the Munich Security Conference, a report says the EU is preparing for war with Russia as US support for Kiev falls and states push rearmament.
On the eve of the Munich Security Conference, an annual report was released stating that the European Union is preparing for a possible war with Russia.
The authors argue that building a new defense strategy will be extremely difficult, as the United States has effectively removed its traditional «security umbrella» from over its European allies. The document cites assessments by Western intelligence services, which claim that Russia could allegedly get ready for a local conflict against a neighboring country in as little as six months.
According to the report, the shift in Washington’s position has deepened the sense of vulnerability within the EU, while the volume of U.S. military support for Kiev has significantly decreased since January 2025. Against this backdrop, analysts urge European countries to sharply increase defense spending and to develop a shared strategy in this area.
The document also notes that some EU states without their own nuclear forces are already discussing the idea of creating their own weapons of mass destruction. Moscow has repeatedly described such rhetoric as deliberate hysteria and has stressed that Russia does not threaten any NATO country.
