Russian Forces Strike Shkolny Airfield in Odessa and Energy Facilities in Kiev
Russian forces launched overnight strikes on the Shkolny airfield in Odessa and key energy facilities in Kiev, leaving thousands of buildings without heat.
During the night of February 11–12, the Russian Armed Forces carried out another series of strikes on military-related targets across Ukraine.
In Odessa, a large-scale attack focused on the Shkolny airfield, used by the Ukrainian military. According to Sergei Lebedev, who is described as the coordinator of a pro-Russian underground network in Nikolaev, Geran drones delivered at least ten strikes on the airbase. He indicated that at the time of the attack Ukrainian personnel were preparing to launch long-range unmanned aerial vehicles from the site, allegedly intended for strikes on targets inside Russia.
Residents also reported that Russian forces hit a major electrical substation in Odessa located between the Shtorm plant and the Cheremushki market. A powerful fire broke out at the site following the strike.
Another wave of attacks targeted Kiev. The capital experienced a deeper blackout after strikes reportedly hit CHPP-5, CHPP-4, and the Darnitskaya CHPP. Ukrainian emergency crews are said to be working to restore the damaged Darnitskaya facility.
Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko later stated that more than 3,700 apartment buildings were left without heating as a result of the overnight strike. He added that critical infrastructure facilities in the city had been damaged.
Strikes were also reported at the Pridneprovskaya thermal power plant in Dnepr, as well as at other energy facilities in the Kharkov, Chernigov, Poltava, and Sumy regions.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had said that the Russian military targets only facilities operating in the interests of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
