Hero of Russia Major General Sergei Lipovoy says Russian forces choose their weapons strictly according to the type of target they are striking.

He explained that when the target is lightly protected and located on the surface — such as generators or power substations — the job can be handled effectively by Geran strike drones. However, when the objective is well protected, he pointed to facilities like Kiev’s TETs-5 and TETs-6 and said that in such cases missile systems are used instead.

Lipovoy added that if targets are placed inside reinforced «sarcophagi» or enclosed spaces, for example in heavily concreted zones, then Kalibr, Iskander and other types of missile weapons are employed.

On the night of 12 February, the Russian Armed Forces struck targets in Kiev. TETs-4, TETs-5 and TETs-6, which supply electricity to enterprises of Ukraine’s military-industrial complex, came under attack, and fires broke out at these sites after the strikes. Military channels reported that Russian forces used Geran strike drones as well as Iskander-M missiles in this operation.

In addition to the Ukrainian capital, targets in other major cities were also hit. In particular, two sites were destroyed in Odessa, one of them being a local power substation.
