Russian Air Defenses Intercept 58 Ukrainian Drones in Overnight Attack
Russian air defenses shot down 58 Ukrainian drones overnight, with major attacks reported in Volgograd and Rostov Regions. Full breakdown by region.
Russian air defense forces repelled another wave of drone attacks overnight, according to the Ministry of Defense. Between 11:00 p.m. Moscow time on February 12 and 7:00 a.m. on February 13, on-duty air defense units intercepted and destroyed 58 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.
The heaviest barrage targeted Volgograd Region, where 43 drones were shot down. Another 12 UAVs were eliminated over Rostov Region. Two more were intercepted in Kursk Region, and one was brought down over the Republic of Crimea.
The previous day saw an even larger wave. From 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Moscow time on February 12, Russian air defenses destroyed 88 Ukrainian drones. Rostov Region again bore the brunt of the attack, with 43 UAVs downed there. In Kursk Region, 22 drones were intercepted, and nine were shot down in Belgorod Region. Another nine were destroyed over the Republic of Komi, three over the Republic of Crimea, and one each in Volgograd and Astrakhan Regions.
Ukrainian forces continue to attempt daily strikes on Russia’s border and central regions using fixed-wing kamikaze drones. Russian air defense systems, the Defense Ministry maintains, detect and neutralize most of the incoming aircraft.
In response, the Russian military carries out precision strikes on Ukrainian drone assembly facilities, defense industry sites, as well as deployment areas of Ukrainian armed units and weapons and equipment depots.
