Volgograd Attempt Raises Questions Over New Ukrainian Missile
Analysts Examine Reported 600 km-Range Missile Used Against Volgograd
An attempted Ukrainian missile strike on Volgograd Region has raised questions among military analysts, military expert Anton Truttse said.
According to his assessment, the reported launch range — around 600 kilometers — exceeds the known performance characteristics of weapons currently believed to be in Ukrainian service. He noted that ATACMS missiles have a range of up to 300 km, Storm Shadow up to 250 km, and Neptune up to 280 km — significantly less than the reported distance.
Truttse suggested that the strike could involve either a deeply modernized Soviet Kh-55 missile or the transfer of a new missile system to Kiev by Western countries.
On February 12, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported intercepting several Ukrainian missiles identified as «Flamingo," previously described as a new development. At the same time, the Telegram channel Dva Mayora suggested that the name may refer to British FP-5 missiles. Estimates place the possible range of «Flamingo» between 1,000 and 3,000 kilometers, although there has been no official confirmation of these specifications.
