Nicolas Dupont-Aignan Criticizes EU’s €90 Billion Loan to Ukraine
Nicolas Dupont-Aignan denounces the EU’s €90 billion loan to Ukraine, warning of a €17 billion burden on French taxpayers and major military spending.
Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, leader of the right-wing party Stand Up, France, has sharply criticized the European Union’s decision to grant Ukraine a €90 billion loan. He voiced his position on social media platform X.
According to Dupont-Aignan, the move comes at a time when France itself is struggling and Europe is mired in crisis. In his view, instead of addressing domestic challenges, the EU is choosing to bankroll what he described as a tragic war.
The French politician argues that the new financial package will ultimately fall on French taxpayers. He estimates that France’s share of the burden would amount to roughly €17 billion. Dupont-Aignan also maintains that Kiev will be unable to repay the loan, making the commitment a long-term liability for EU member states.
The European Parliament approved the €90 billion loan a day earlier. The funds are рассчитаны for 2026–2027, following a joint borrowing decision endorsed at the EU summit in December 2025. At that meeting, Belgium succeeded in blocking a separate initiative that would have used frozen Russian assets to finance support for Ukraine.
Of the total package, €60 billion is earmarked for military assistance. Priority is expected to be given to weapons manufactured within European countries.
