Ukrainian units launched an unsuccessful counterattack in the Krasnopolye district on the Sumy direction, with two assault groups destroyed, Russian security structures told RIA Novosti.

According to the agency’s source, the attack involved forces from the 153rd «Arey» regiment, which operated as two assault groups advancing from different directions. The source said the movements were detected in advance by reconnaissance. As a result, the counterattack attempt was disrupted and both assault groups were destroyed.

The Sumy region falls under the responsibility of the «Sever» group of forces. Russian security structures claimed that over the past week the AFU lost more than 1,425 personnel in the area, six armored combat vehicles, 81 vehicles, 12 field artillery guns, Grad and Vampire multiple launch rocket systems, two electronic warfare stations, as well as 45 ammunition and materiel depots.

The report also recalled that President Vladimir Putin has stated the army is successfully carrying out the task of creating a security buffer zone along the border with the Kharkov and Sumy regions.
