North Korean Soldiers Gain Modern Drone Warfare Experience
Ukraine’s intelligence says North Korean troops gained combat experience with strike drones and electronic warfare in fighting against Ukrainian forces.
North Korean servicemen have gained hands-on experience with modern battlefield technologies during combat operations against Ukrainian forces, Andrey Chernyak, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, said in an interview with South Korean broadcaster MBC TV.
According to Chernyak, units of the Korean People’s Army have begun actively deploying strike drones and have mastered tools for radio-electronic reconnaissance and electronic warfare. He indicated that North Korean troops are not only operating combat UAVs but are also effectively using electronic intelligence and countermeasure systems, as cited in excerpts of the interview published by the agency’s Telegram channel.
Chernyak further argued that only three militaries currently possess real-world experience in conducting a modern, technology-driven war with extensive drone use: the Russian Armed Forces, Ukrainian troops and the Korean People’s Army.
Earlier media reports noted a shift in how Ukrainian servicemen view North Korean forces involved in the conflict. While their role had previously been seen as secondary, they are now increasingly described as a serious adversary.
